Quota usage increases unexpectedly

Something is wrong with Codex usage limits. I'm running the same routine tasks via cron as before - just splitting up the work and triggering automations. Nothing has fundamentally changed in my workflow, yet my usage limits are being consumed roughly 4 times faster than before.

Hi Tibo, after the update, I’ve noticed that the quota is being consumed much faster now. That said, the processing speed does feel noticeably quicker too. I’m not sure if this is expected behavior following this minor update, or if it’s another bug.

@OpenAI What’s the point of usage limit resets if the same tasks now consume several times more tokens after the October updates? Support keeps sending generic replies. I prefer GPT over Claude, but you are making it impossible to stay. This is ridiculous.

One request used up my entire 5-hour GPT-6.1 Sol limit in 3 minutes, and Astra's in just 1 minute! What changed? Why am I paying if I can only send one request before waiting 5 hours? This is ridiculous and makes the service nearly unusable. I may really have to switch to Claude.

Same task, same prompt: Codex used my full 5-hour limit + 200 extra credits. Claude Code used only 13%. This is not reasonable. Keep this up and I’m leaving OpenAI.

Me too. Oct 16, 2026, 18:09:36→18:10:02 UTC: Codex weekly usage jumped 31%→100%. Logs from my PC show one Sol response: 94K tokens, 83K cached. Credit deductions followed at 18:10:17. The quota record format also changed. Cause unconfirmed; reported to Support.

Tibo, I think you might want to look into why our quota is burning through so fast. I've noticed that gpt6.1sol is draining credits about four to five times faster than before.

Two Codex tasks working together on my backend used to consume just 10% of my weekly limit COMBINED on the $200 Pro plan. Yesterday, the same two tasks burned through 100% of that limit and started draining paid credits. How the hell is that an improvement?

There is a bug with Pro accounts where usage went straight to 0% earlier today and now it's using up credits. I was at ~70% weekly and have been at 0% since early afternoon. Other similar reports piling up.

1. This feature was existed on day10 at least; 2. I feel it significantly increased the token usage 3. To make codex subagent work fresh with small task i now use Claude lead agent to orchestrate the implementation.

I’ve been a subscriber for a long time—did you quietly reduce the quota for the 20x tier? For the exact same project, it used to consume 20% of my quota for one hour of "fast" mode; now, it consumes 20% of my quota even without "fast" mode enabled.

Is Codex Pro 20x usage accounting broken? Oct 4: 224M tokens used 10% of weekly allowance; Oct 5: 201M used 26%. Remaining allowance fell from 70% to 21%, including 30%→21% in under an hour. Separate bug: switching to Sol Light left existing subagents on Astra low.

Don’t know about improvement, but apparently today saying "hi" to GPT-6 Luna Light in a brand new chat costs 1% of my weekly limit and 4% of my 5-hour quota.
